Mallika Sherawat, one of the hottest actresses of Bollywood film industry , was born on October 24, 1981, in Rohtak, Haryana, India. Her original name is Reema Lamba but as she used the name Mallika Sherawat in Bollywood, she became known as Mallika Sherawat. The word Mallika means queen and Sherawat is her mother’s maiden name. It is maybe to avoid confusion that she used the name “Mallika” because there was already an actress with the name Reema and three more actresses with similar names. Mallika earned a degree in philosophy from Miranda House, Delhi University. Before coming to Bollywood, She worked as an air-hostess with AIR INDIA, where she met Karan Singh Gill, a pilot. After dating for a while, They got married. But as they couldn’t adjust with each other, especially the problem was that Mallika was a big dreamer and always wanted to be an actress rather than leading a normal life, they soon parted. After she divorced her husband she did some part time jobs as well as modeling to some brands. Eventually she became a well-known model as she bagged the chances to work with Amitabh in BPL ad and Shah Rukh Khan in Hyundai Santro ad.
Mallika debuted Bollywood with the sensational film Khwahish in 2003. It is because of her unobjectional attitude to expose her body in much part of the movie and as many as 17 kissing scenes that the film became a sensation at the box office. Later that film she acted in Murder in 2004, which was also a successful at the box office, only because of her exposing though. The film also featured Emraan Hasmi, who later got the reputation as “The serial kisser” and “Kissing king.” In 2005 she acted in the Jackie Chan film “The Myth”,as an Indian princess, becoming the first Indian actress to get a chance to work with the Hong Kong and Hollywood superstar. Before the release of the film there was a lot of buzz about her acting in that film that she was playing the lead role etc, but once the film released it all went up in the air because her role was as small as around 15 minutes long. July 2004 was a bad phase in Mallika’s Bollywood career as she was temporarily put in the blacklist of IMPAA union, after filmmaker Ramesh Sharma complained that she had committed a breach of contract when Mallika didn’t attend the shoot for the film Kab Kyun Kahan, a film started in 1999.
Mallika became the hottest girl of Bollywood eventually as her films released. So far she has acted in a little more than ten films, while some of her films in production which will be releasing soon. She is also working with South Star actor Kamal Hasan in the film Dasavatharam. Actually her first film was Jeena Sirf Merre Liye in 2002, in which she acted under real name Reema Lamba. The lead roles of that film were played by Tusshar Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. Mallika played a small role named sonia ina that film. Mallika went on a world tour of concert performances called Rock Stars with the like of Kareena Kapoor, Esha Deol, Salman Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Zayed Khan and John Abraham. She is a Advisory Board member of the Asian Academy of film and television.
In July 2004, the Bollywood film producers’ union IMPAA temporarily blacklisted Mallika. Filmmaker Ramesh Sharma complained that she had committed a breach of contract when she failed to turn up, as promised, for the filming of Kab Kyun Kahan (started in 1999). [2]
Mallika, who has earned her reputation by shocking the Indian middle class, was the first Indian woman rumored to get an offer to pose nude for Playboy magazine;However, the magazine denied to have made such an offer.
She accepted the Advisory Board membership of the Asian Academy of film and television supporting the film education in India.
In April 2006, Mallika went on her first world tour of concert performances called Rock Stars along with Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Zayed Khan, Esha Deol, and John Abraham.
