Lara, Katrina make hot Koffee

After sharing the frame in David Dhawan’s Partner, Lara Dutta [Images] and Katrina Kaif katrinaare back together in this week’s episode of Koffee With Karan.

The gorgeous women talk about a lot of things ranging from Lara’s recent movies, to Katrina’s admission that she is not in talking terms with Bipasha Basu [Images], and of course, Salman Khan [Images].

Here’s a sneak preview of the show:

Karan Johar [Images]: Last time, we had such a fun time with you (Lara) and Bipasha. Did I get you into trouble?

Lara: Yes, tremendously! It has taken me a whole year to undo all the problems I caused myself.

Karan: You are looking absolutely stunning. Why do I feel you are suddenly raring to go?

Lara: Because I probably am! It’s taken me about three and a half years to find my footing in the industry, to find out what I like doing, the kind of cinema that I like being part of, the kind of people that I like doing work with. I think once you have that in place, you start feeling more confident about yourself.

Karan: Well, Katrina, you have been very diplomatic. I have been doing some research, looking through your interviews, trying to look for something sensational.

Katrina: Nothing na…

Karan: Nothing. Why are you like this? You are young, beautiful… you have to say rude and nasty things once in a while. Come on, say something! Think of something rude to say.

Katrina: I think it is probably because I came here at a later stage. Most people grew up here. I think there is a certain reservation about going ahead and criticising people who have grown up here and been here all their life. Let, maybe three or four years pass and I will get really over-confident and then start…
Karan: Start making headlines. Suddenly, we will see very dramatic answers.

Katrina: Ya!

Karan: What both of you had strangely in common was… Lara, though you are a hard core Punjabi, you had this whole western image. Everyone thought that Lara Dutta is very westernised. But of course, you are a true Indian girl with the Punjabi background. But that never came to the fore till very recently.

Lara: But, you know, I tried to get out of the stereotype from the very first film. When I did Andaz, I did it with as hard core a Hindi film director you can get, Raj Kanwar. And the character that I played was very Punjabi. I did that with No Entry [Images], where I played a suspicious Indian housewife. These are the roles that have been appreciated.

Karan: And you have had to combat that as well Katrina because everyone said (you are) Anglo-sized, westernised. Now, you dub your own films.

Katrina: Ya. I think, initially, it was a nice way of putting it. When it comes to modelling, it’s easy. People just accept you. But in films, there is a lot of…

Lara: But, I have to say, having worked with Katrina in Partner, she gives you this huge complex. I think she is really hard working. I think she is really dedicated, she knows this is where she wants to be, and she is going to go all out to get it. And I really admire that.

Watch Koffee With Karan on Sunday, August 5 at 9 pm on Star One and Star World.s.

Katrina Kaif turns prostitute

katrina kaifIf rumours are to be believed, Bollywood hottie Katrina Kaif may star in Sanjay Bansali’s new movie based on the stories regarding Pakistan ’s Heera Mandi famous for prostitutes.

Sanjay is being reported to buy the rights of a book of a famous Pakistani writer based on Heera Mandi’s paradise of whores. He may rope in Rekha, Shabana Azmi, Rani Mukherjee and Madhuri and also recent hot star Katrina for the roles of prostitute

Partner Must Watch Movie

katrinaI went last night with my colleagues for this movie starring Govinda and Salman Khan. I was sceptical as usual before watching any Govinda starrer, neither am i a fan of Salman. So why did I go? Maybe because most of my friends who had watched this earlier had given me a good review and maybe because i had nothing else to do.

This movie is totally lifted from the Will Smith starrer, Hitch, released in 2005. Scene for Scene the antics have been copied and Govinda has done quite well adding a few of his own twists and gaffes. As usual there are scenes from other hollywood movies too that have been taken to-to, like Jerry Mcguire.

Salman Khan plays the role that Will smith played in Hitch, and Govinda is the guy who needs help in setting up a date with Katrina Kaif. Lara Dutta plays Salman’s love interest. Watch out for Rajpal Yadav as Chotta don… wow this guy is amazing in a small freakish role. In the film he aspires to look like Shah Rukh Khan and dresses up in a dapper black coat and glares just like Shah Rukh in ‘Don’. And sports dialogues in Amitabh’s deep voice.

The characters are not well developed and the film could have been edited better. But if you are looking to escape the stress and strains of daily life then this is the movie for you.

The music though is not that good, but Govinda’s dancing makes up for it. Govinda certainly has turned a corner. He does confident parodies of his old collaborations with David Dhawan, takes ghoulish delight in tormenting his screen-buddy by his antics and has himself a whale of time…in and out of the sky-blue waters.

Salman Khan evades any question about his girlfriend Katrina Kaif and answers queries on his marriage philosophically. So media talks to anybody close to Sallubhai about his girlfriend. Most of his friends refuse to talk about Salman’s personal life. But Sallubhai’s latest bhaisaab Govinda doesn’t hezitate to talk about Salman’s personal life. He says “Salman and Katrina love each other very much. Katrina is a wonderful girl. She is graceful and simple. I admire her as an actress. She is constantly trying to strengthen her presence in Bollywood. And Salman also cares a lot for Katrina. I think they make a wonderful couple”
Wah Netaji!

Salman Khan joined by Katrina Kaif, brother Sohail Khan, David Dhawan, Lara Dutta and Rajpal Yadav, enjoyed the special screening of David Dhawan’s ‘Partner’ with the underprivileged kids of Mumbai at Cinemax theatre in Mumbai.

She has handsome hunk Salman Khan for boyfriend, has worked with the evergreen Big B, the charismatic Bacchan Junior and actionman Akshay Kumar. But Katrina Kaif still has a secret wish – that of working with Hrithik Roshan.

But with Hum Ko Dewana Kar Gaye with Akshay and Ram Gopal Varma’s Sholay remake at hand, she has to wait for some time before she can be paired on screen opposite Hrithik.

In the meantime, what she can do is polish her Hindi a bit. Though the language is not a big problem in films, she says, it sure is tough in everyday life. After all, wouldn’t it be nice if she expresses her admiration for Hrithik in Hindi, instead of the accented English.

Apne movie review

Anil Sharma’s Apne, right from the fuzzy-warm title — is meant for fans of Dharmendra, and those who place nostalgia high up on their entertainment criteria. For the film is an unabashedly old-fashioned ode to the traditional family, in which sons are expected to sacrifice their ambitions for their father’s wishes, and women, of course, have no say in anything.

Baldev Singh (Dharmendra made to look impossibly young) used to be a boxing champ, whose success was cut short by a trumped up doping charge. He challenged the bad Yankees that his son would return and redeem his honour. The son, Angad (Sunny Deol) followed his father’s obsession up to a point, then gave it up for the financial security of the family. Since the younger son Karan (Bobby Deol) has a paralysed arm, he is exempted from boxing, and Baldev spends many years in bitter rage, refusing to speak to Angad.katrina kaifHe is hopeful once more when his friends (Victor Bannerjee-Javed Shaikh) bring him an ambitious young boxer (Aryan Vaid) to coach, but this one ditches him too, for a foreign coach. Witnessing his father’s pain and frustration, Karan’s arm gets miraculously cured, and he goes on to become a top boxer. The only goal left to achieve is to beat the world champ Luca Gracia (Chris Anderson).

The foreigners are fighting for money and fame, and will resort to cheating to win, the Indians fight for family, country and honour, so there’s no doubt about who’ll triumph — the Indian joint family, naturally! And who understands that better than a Bollywood family that still has the lifestyle they portray in the movies. If the mushiness of Apne, does not jar, it’s because of its real-life echoes. Dharmendra almost retired and let his sons take over the mantle of his stardom. Sunny Deol has had his time at the top, Bobby Deol hung on without major success, so every time there is a a dip in the Deol brand equity, Sunny comes back with a roar. Which is pretty much what happens to the Chaudhary family in the film and the stars don’t even have to act to portray it — it’s genuine clan bonding.

The second half of the film is set in America, where Karan is competing for the world title. A lot of time is taken up by theshilpa training of the brothers and their 12-round matches with Luca (all inspired in style by Raging Bull and the Rocky series). This can be heavy going for those who do not like boxing and cannot stand violence of the bone-crunching, blood-spurting kind.

What Bollywood calls “family emotions” are the driving force of this film-and the ‘fan’ value of seeing the three Deols together in the film for the first time. Pity the women (Kirron Kher, Shilpa Shetty, Katrina Kaif, Divya Dutta) have so little to do; the music’s not too good either, that Apne to apne hote hain whine that goes on and on in the background is hardly chart-busting stuff.

katrinaKatrina Kaif is finally dubbing her own lines and is highly inclined to continue this trend of hearing herself speak in her own voice now onwards. Katrina says that dubbing in your own voice really adds to the performance.

“When I look back where someone else dubbed for me, I go, ‘No, no, no! That’s not me!’ But in Namastey London and Apne, I felt I was watching and hearing myself,” says the excited actress.

Katrina was previously dubbed for Ram Gopal Varma’s Sarkar although she was sure her voice suited the character just fine. She has come a long way to synchronise her voice and personality in her latest releases in two years time.

Indian film industry has given her a lot and still has lots to offer her feels Katrina, being completely at home in Bollywood.

She sees every unit as a different entity with its own rhythm and atmosphere.

“A Vipul Shah production is different from a David Dhawan set-up, but I don’t think I ever retired to my van for either Namastey London or Partner. With Vipul, I go blah-blah all day long,” says Katrina.

But Katrina misses her family at the end of the day, getting homesick. That’s when she takes off to Chennai to be with her mother and sisters.

Katrina was recently in Abbas-Mustaan’s Race for a song. Saif Ali Khan and Bipasha Basu made her feel really comfortable and welcome.
